Leg Pain

November 8th, 2010

Lower leg illnesses can cause GA leg pain. The pain might not be harmful, but it can also be serious. In order to narrow down the list of leg disorders, those with a history of trauma or overuse of the legs can reveal the cause. Thrombosis, which usually occurs in older patients, and can usually be indicated by leg pain in the lower calf region in Fort Oglethorpe. Although thrombosis is quite serious, it is not always easy to discern, since it can be mistaken for trauma swelling or muscle strain.

Among those who are athletic, over exercising can cause leg pain. Strain in the calf muscle from biomechanical imbalances at the foot level causes the leg pain.

Your chiropractor, Dr. William Johnson DC, will have all patients undergo orthopaedic and neurological testing, as well as diagnostic radiography, to find the underlying cause of the leg pain. Then, the doctor of chiropractic will design a treatment plan specific to your case.

Foot Pain Chiropractic Treatment

October 24th, 2010

Inappropriate foot gear or inadequate support are two of the leading causes of foot pain. Dr. William Johnson DC says that foot pain develops from points of excess pressure or soreness from wearing shoes that do not fit, thereby resulting in the formation of corns and calluses and a worsening of the Hallux Valgus at the first toe. Then there are shoes that fit too tightly and effectively compress the metatarsals and harm the toenails. These can be another source of foot pain. For an overly mobile foot, plantar fasciitis ( a frequent cause of foot pain) can develop if support is insufficient. Ankle sprains are common accidents that cause foot pain in GA. The most common ankle sprain is plantar flexion with inversion.

In the therapeutic management of foot pain, acute injury is managed accompanied by advice on how to prevent repeat injuries in the future. A thorough evaluation of the requirements of an associated sport or event combined with a post injury rehabilitation regimen that must be adhered to constitutes a good foot pain therapeutic plan at Pain Relief Center.

The Fort Oglethorpe chiropractor will conduct an extensive history-taking and examination that includes orthopaedic and neurological testing plus radiographic images to correctly diagnose the real cause of your foot pain. Then the chiropractor will handle the development of a plan of management that is specifically made for your case.

LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY

October 18th, 2010

 LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY

The basic principle of  low level laser is that the specific wavelength (635nm) of laser stimulation at the appropriate strength has been proven to reduce healing time of muscles and tendons by 30-40%.  At the proper frequency, low level laser stimulation can improve microcirculation within the blood and lymphatic systems helping to reduce inflammation and restore nutrition needed for tissue healing.  Because of its effects on the formation of scar tissue, low level laser reduces healing time from wounds and surgical scars while helping the injured tissues to heal stronger.  It has also been used in the place of needles in treating acupuncture points because it has been shown to increase the production of neurotransmitters and pain killing hormones.  Low level lasers are sometimes referred to as “cold lasers” because they do not burn or cut the way that high power or “hot” lasers do.  In fact, low level lasers are not capable of producing thermal damage to most tissues.  We have used low level laser to reduce the pain of shoulder and knee injuries while helping to speed up healing time.

Shin Splints

October 16th, 2010

Patients visiting Pain Relief Center with front or back lower leg pain that appears slowly and unnoticed may have shin splints. Shin splints are poorly defined. There are many conditions (tendonitis, periostitis, muscle strain and Interosseous membrane strain) that have been implicated as the cause of shin splints.

There are basically two types of shin splints in Fort Oglethorpe: 1. Anterior shin splints – are conditions that concern the muscles located at the front of the leg whose purpose is for shock absorption. When weak or stressed muscles due to continuous walking or running on hard bases and using shoes that are non-shock absorbing occur regularly, the force transfers to the shin bone, and the outcome is a shin splint. 2. Posterior shin splints – occur when it is the muscles at the back of the leg that are involved. Too much pronation can cause excessive strain on these muscles which act as ankle stabilizers.

When shin splints are present, the pain is most commonly felt at the middle to the lower third of the shin bone. One key differential for shin splints is a stress fracture, says Dr. William Johnson DC. However, with shin splints, x-rays are usually normal.

Your chiropractor, of GA, will perform a thorough history and examination including orthopaedic, neurological testing and diagnostic radiography to determine the extent of you shin splints. After that, they will create a specially designed plan of management for your case.

REDUCING PAIN AND ENHANCING HEALTH WITH AURICULAR THERAPY

October 4th, 2010

Auricular therapy is a form of acupressure that treats the entire body through points only on the ears.  This form of treatment has its origin in ancient China, but has been modified by the French physician Paul Nogier.  His work has been enhanced by the work of Terry Olsen, Ph.D. through his research at the UCLA Pain Management Center, in Los Angeles, California.   In our office, acupoints on the ear are treated with tiny silver beads that are adhered to the ear with small clear tape.  Because there are NO NEEDLES, these beads can be worn home and usually survive showers and hair washing for 2 to 3 days.

This helps  restore balance to the electro-magnetic pathways of the body called Meridians.  This allows the body to better heal itself by reducing inflammation, congestion, and pain while improving circulation and nerve supply.  This also increases the body’s production of natural pain killing hormones called Endorphins and Enkephalins.  We have used this method successfully for many types of pain such as migraine headaches, shoulder/arm pain, low back and hip pain, and fibromyalgia.

Chiropractic Care Knee Pain

August 21st, 2010

In chiropractic care, we see and treat a lot of people for knee pain. When a patient seeks an alternative to orthopaedic care, they often feel stifled; chiropractic can offer a better option. A chiropractor employs a scientific approach to healing knee pain; he assesses the patient for possible spinal or pelvic association and localized dysfunction of the knee.

Knee pain can come from many sources like the following and the knee is unguarded and exposed to hostile elements, rendering it open to knee pain:
1.Impact injuries
2. Outside forces affecting the knee
3. Injuries related to dashboard
4. Direct blow to the knee from a fall

Overuse or disuse of the knee can develop into soft tissue injuries and cause knee pain. A big percentage of visits to a chiropractor’s office are due to:
1. Player of sports presenting with anterior knee pain.
2.Elderly patient with a complaint of knee pain and stiffness
3. Soreness over the tibial tuberosity from a young sportsperson.
4. Patient complaining of knee ‘giving way’ or instability.

A cautious approach to knee pain therapy is usually taken. An assortment of non-surgical therapeutic methods often works to alleviate knee pain. Chiropractic adjustments, applying heat or cold, strengthening exercises for muscles that support the knee and avoidance of activities that intensify the knee pain.

To identify the true cause of your knee pain, your chiropractor will initiate the following pre-treatment processes: take a detailed history, examine you and do neurological and orthopaedic testing and perform radiologic tests. Then they will develop a specific plan of management tailored to your case.

Chiropractic Care Muscle Strain

August 18th, 2010

An injury to a muscle-tendon component is called a muscle strain, or also known as muscle trauma. When some level of injury is seen in the muscle-tendon intersection, the muscle fibers, the tendon or the bony insertion point, a muscle strain is present. An evaluation of the clinical findings serves as a basis for classification of muscle strain in Fort Oglethorpe into mild, moderate or severe. Oftentimes, a muscle strain is a result of the involved muscle being subjected to too much stretching. Very often, a muscle strain is referred to as a muscle pull.

The following symptoms are characteristic of a muscle strain: stiffness, localized pain, a bruised feeling. Typically, a muscle strain has a knot component generally known as a tender point, states Dr. William Johnson DC. Bearing down on the tender point in a strained muscle and feeling referred pain, this will be known as the trigger point.

Lastly, a muscle that contracts involuntarily as a result of painful nerve stimulation is called a muscle spasm.

A chiropractor will undertake a comprehensive history and examination, and neurological and orthopaedic tests to identify the cause of your condition. Then Pain Relief Center will develop a specific plan of management tailored to your case.

Chiropractor Care Allergy

August 12th, 2010

An allergy is an abnormal response of the body to a particular substance by the immune system. Allergens are antigens that are involved in the allergic reaction. In Fort Oglethorpe, there are many symptoms caused by allergies. Allergic symptoms more often occur in the respiratory and gastrointestinal systems, and the skin.

Some people have an allergy tendency. When the immune system responds unordinarily, it is called an atopic allergy. Dr. William Johnson DC states that the characteristics of allergy tendency is genetic and usually passed down from parent to child; there is also a large amount of the IgE antibody present in the body. When the immune system detects an allergen in the body, it reacts with an allergen-IgE allergy response.

Your chiropractor at Pain Relief Center will gather information about your health history, as well as give you orthopedic and neurological examinations. Then, your doctor of chiropractic will establish a personalized treatment regimen for your conditions.
