Chattanooga Thompson Technique

The seminal doctor of chiropractic, J. Clay Thompson, is the innovator behind the Chattanooga Thompson Drop Table Technique, which is also known as the Chattanooga Thompson Technique. This chiropractic analysis and treatment system elaborates upon earlier analytical procedures developed by Dr. Romer Derifield. Leg-length inequality — oftentimes an indicator of underlying subluxations — is the primary diagnostic tool in the Chattanooga Thompson Technique.

The Chattanooga Thompson Drop Table Technique can be understood in two parts: first, the analytical section using the Derifield-Thompson Leg-Check Analysis. Dr. Johnson, your resident Chattanooga chiropractor, views the Thompson Technique as a necessary program of chiropractic care — finely tuned by the needs of his individual patients, of course. The second stage is considered the implementation of analysis, i.e., the treatment itself.

The first stage — the Leg-Check Analysis — is simply a sequence of checks done in order to develop and fine-tune adjustment options for the patient. Though the process itself is rather complex, the basic theory behind the method is that all the parts of the body are connected in one way or another, so that connections across the spine, hips, and legs (the core, roughly) must be taken as a whole. In fact, Derifield discovered these analytical tools by accident, during the observation of a patient whose legs changed lengths as he turned his head from left to right. This indicated a problem that Derifield would not have otherwise known about.

After its development by Thompson, many chiropractors across the world began applying their own particular “spin” on technique. Indeed, Dr. Johnson has utilized the Chattanooga Thompson Drop Table Technique for years. The core idea of the Chattanooga Thompson Technique is that it accommodates a high-velocity, low-impact touch, which is required of certain procedures, but simply not allowed by common, stationary tables. The table, developed by Thompson himself, holds the patient in place only in the absence of any other forces, using a complex, delicate hydraulic support system.

When a chiropractor applies a forceful adjustment to the spine of the resting patient, the table drops slightly — only an inch or two — allowing the required quick, gentle touch. Dr. Johnson, a chiropractor well-aware of both historically validated methods and their current improvements, utilizes the Thompson Techniquesetup in his daily chiropractic practice. If you would like more information on the Thompson Technique — or any other methods of treatment — please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Johnson’s office.
